Traveling with Kids: Summer Vacation Health Tips

Making Memories, Staying Healthy! Summer means family adventures - whether you're flying across the country, hitting the beach, or going on a road trip! But traveling with kids takes a little extra planning to keep everyone healthy, happy, and meltdown-free. Here are our favorite tips to make your summer trip safe and smooth!

🧴 Pack a Travel Health Kit

It's always smart to bring a little "just in case" kit! Include:

🩹 Band-aids
🌡️ Thermometer
💊 Any medicines your child might need
🧼 Hand sanitizer & wipes
🦟 Bug spray
🧴 Sunscreen
😷 Masks (just in case you're in crowded spots)

🚗 Road Trip Tips

Traveling by car? Here's how to make the ride easier:

🎒 Pack snacks & drinks - try apples, pretzels, and plenty of water
📱 Bring books, music, or travel games
🧻 Keep extra clothes, wipes, and trash bags handy
🚽 Plan for potty breaks every 2-3 hours

Motion sickness? Try light snacks, cool air, and ask your pediatrician about kid-safe meds if it's a regular issue. 🤢

✈️ Flying with Kids

Up, up, and away! Flying can be fun - and a little stressful.

👂To help with ear popping, let kids chew gum, suck on a lollipop, or drink during takeoff and landing.
😷 Airplanes can be full of germs! Wipe down trays and hands often.
🎧 Pack small toys, coloring books, or tablet games for entertainment.

Traveling with a baby? Feed during takeoff/landing and try to stick to nap routines.

🍎 Eat Smart on the Go

Vacation treats are fun, but balance is key!

🥗 Offer fruits and veggies at least once a day
🚰 Stick to water over sugary drinks
🕒 Try to keep meals and snacks on a routine to avoid hangry meltdowns 😤

🛏️ Sleep Schedules on the Road

Different beds and new places can make it hard to sleep 😴

🌙 Try to stick to regular bedtimes
🧸 Bring a favorite stuffed animal or blanket from home
📖 Keep the same bedtime routine (like reading or lullabies)

🏥 When to Call a Doctor

Sometimes, even on vacation, kids get sick. Call your pediatrician or get help if your child:

🌡️ Has a high fever
💩 Has diarrhea or vomiting for more than 24 hours
🤕 Gets hurt and needs medical attention
😷 Shows signs of an infection (like rash, ear pain, or cough)

🏖️ Enjoy the Adventure - Safely!

With a little planning, you can focus on the fun and worry less about the "what-ifs.

" Whether you're building sandcastles, visiting family, or just exploring something new, we hope your summer travels are safe, healthy, and full of smiles. 🏕️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦💙
