Why October is a Good Time for a Flu Shot
Missed your child’s fall flu shot? Learn why vaccination can still help and what to ask CTCC about timing and doses.
You can still make a plan
If your child has not received this season’s flu vaccine, October is a good time to contact your pediatrician. Fall calendars fill quickly, and missing an earlier reminder does not mean you should skip vaccination. Flu can continue circulating well beyond the start of winter. At Cradle Thru College Care, we can review your child’s record and help you decide what comes next.
Why flu vaccination matters
Flu can be more than a few uncomfortable days. It can lead to complications, including worsening asthma, and children can need hospital care. A seasonal flu vaccine helps reduce the risk of illness and serious complications. No vaccine prevents every infection, but vaccination remains an important part of prevention.
Check how many doses are needed
Flu vaccination is recommended each season for children beginning at 6 months of age, with rare exceptions. Some younger children need two doses based on their vaccination history. Rather than relying on memory, ask us to check the record. If a second dose is needed, we can tell you when it should be scheduled.
Plan around your family calendar
Bring upcoming travel dates and previous vaccine records when you contact us. Protection is not immediate after vaccination, and a child who needs two doses will need additional time to complete the series. Scheduling early leaves more room for follow-up.
Your next step
Contact CTCC at 816-942-5437 to discuss your child’s flu vaccination status and scheduling. If your child has a history of a vaccine reaction or a health condition that affects vaccine choice, tell our team. We can address those questions before the visit. You do not have to wait until the next annual checkup to ask about flu prevention.
